I believe that teaching future counselors is about creating meaningful learning experiences that connect theory to real-life practice. I use Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory (Kolb, 1984), which means I encourage students to engage in a cycle of learning that includes experiencing, reflecting, thinking, and applying. This helps students deeply understand counseling concepts and how to use them effectively.
I also prioritize antiracist pedagogy in my teaching. This means I work to create an inclusive classroom where all voices are valued. I challenge biases and encourage open discussions about social justice and equity. By integrating these principles, I aim to prepare students to be culturally competent counselors who can advocate for and support diverse communities.
